But this leads the user to youtube instead of just opening the movie on my website? So users got lost and can not get back to my page.

All those hacks with onclick=”target=’blank’” is nonsense! While your page is XHTML valid, your Javascript isn’t. I mean, if some browser is able to open link in new tab with that javascript, it will definately open new tab with simple target=”_blank” declaration. And if it doesn’t understand the target attribute (because XHML doesn’t require it to), I don’t think that whole page will broke if you leave that target attribute in the “a” tag. And the solution with Javascript still won’t work. All you get from all those hacks is green tick in the validator. I mean, if all those XHTMLs were created to make user experience better, these hacks just make it worse. If user doesn’t have Javascript, _blank won’t work for him. And I think not having Javascript (enabled) is far more often than browser without target attribute support.

Thinking about users, I’ll definately still use target=”_blank” attribute in my pages. And if I’d want that green tick very badly, I’d go with that DTD expanding, because it’s only between your page and validator, don’t get users involved into this.

Is this plugin compatible with WPMU? I was unable to update settings in the WP admin panel (I had to add them directly into the database). When I try to update options it redirects to http://popmagick.com/wp-admin/options.php and gives the error “Error! Options page not found.”

Having added [amtap amazon:asin=1592575331] to a post, it doesn’t display after being published: http://popmagick.com/complete-idiots-guide-to-wicca-and-witchcraft/

I have got this working correctly on another website (vanilla WP, not WPMU), so I suspect it isn’t working with MU. Any suggestions?

Hi Mark, I've been thinking about the “play” symbol, too, but I believe the easiest and most compatible way would be an overlay with an image. On the other hand we're talking about highly advanced browsers, so I guess something could be constructed with CSS3. Anybody up for the challenge?

Concerning your second question I don't think there's a way to return to the browser if we implement just a link. In that case the link opens in the YouTube App, and there's no way back. An alternative and even sexier approach would be native HTML5 video support. Alas I don't think the API already features that.

Two questions re: the user experience:

Is there any way of getting the play symbol to appear over the frame of the video (without creating it in photoshop)?
Once the user watches the video, is there any way of enabling the user to 'easily' navigate back to your site without having to close YouTube on the iPhone, and relaunch the web browser (safari/opera mini)?

Hi Martin,

I just installed your plug-in and got my self an account with Amazon Web Services. I entered the Access Key ID and the Secret Access Key in the config fields. When I updated the settings I got an error I am pretty sure I cant do anything about, but I will still ask here if anyone knows a work around...

"Your server is located in a private IP address space. Amazon Web Services cannot fetch the file that is required to validate the access key."

I am running my site on servage.net

The shorttag into a post works consistently for me, but the machine tags into the sidebar only seems to work with some themes. This is true even though, I have embedded the snippet of code into the sidebar.php of each theme tried. Is there any help that you can offer to explain why this might be true, or what might be done about it? Also, it is unclear why the snippet of code in the side bar is required. Why doesn’t an add_action work? It seems like the correct solution to all of this is a widget. So, it would be helpful to understand what code would need to be executed by the widget.
